Schools can be a part of the 10,000 Talks movement by inviting a passionate apprentice, or former apprentice to talk to their students about their experience and help inspire the next generation of apprentices. Schools can register their interest here to arrange for an apprentice ambassador to deliver an inspiring #10kTalk to their students. Find out more about 10kTalks in this video featuring Amy Grange, a former degree apprentice, who visited her old school to give a talk.

Derby Cornerstone Employers went to House of Lords

Five local employers who have pledged to work with the Opportunity Area to play a key role in helping to create opportunities for young people in the  City of Derby joined the Careers & Enterprise Company at the House of Lords for their ‘Social Mobility and the role of Employers’ event.

The event was to recognise and celebrate the commitment to driving social mobility by Cornerstone employers from across the Opportunity Areas.

This employer commitment from the Cornerstone Employers in Derby will ensure that all pupils aged eleven to eighteen in Derby will experience at least four meaningful encounters with employers and the world of work, enabling them to develop the critical soft skills, attitude and motivation necessary for employment, education or training.

The names of all the Cornerstone Employers are:
Bombardier
Burn the Book
Freeths LLP

We would like to invite Head Teachers, Careers Leaders, Enterprise Advisers and D2N2 Stakeholders from across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to an event which will provide an update to the Careers and Enterprise Company implementation of the Careers Strategy nationally. School's Call for Employer Support with Careers Fairs

We wanted to alert Enterprise Advisers to a set of Careers Fairs, ‘Learn By Design’ will be delivering over the coming months targeting young people across D2N2.

The careers fairs are open to pupils from year 8 up to sixth form so is a great opportunity to reach those making their careers choices now. We’ll also have a focus on pupils identified as being at risk of falling through the gaps when they leave school; so not being in education, training or employment.

Stands in the Careers Market Places are completely free of charge as the event is funded by D2N2/Careers Local. Local employers can showcase their industry; let pupils physically see what starting a career in their industry could look like and where it can take them, and most importantly how to make it happen. Learn By Design would welcome employers from across a range of sectors including STEM.

If you would like to take part in any of the events below please contact Helen Peden HelenPeden@bydesign-group.co.uk

Join the Community

The Careers & Enterprise Company launched Workplace as a key channel for sharing news, information and best practice with you, our business volunteers.

Workplace is an easy to use closed collaboration platform, brought to you by Facebook. It is a free tool for non-profit organisations, based on Facebook’s familiar features, yet specific to you and your work as an Enterprise Adviser. You do not need to have Facebook to use it and it does not link to any personal accounts you may have.

Within our closed Workplace site you can discuss projects, ask questions within your regional group and across the national network, receive company-wide news and instantly communicate with fellow volunteers and Enterprise Coordinators using (private) Workplace Messaging.

Workplace is your space to connect with and learn from hundreds of volunteers and Enterprise Coordinators across the country, all preparing and inspiring young people for the world of work.  We hope that you sign up and find it a valuable community to be part of.

Next Steps:

  1. Email workplace@careersandenteprise.co.uk to request to join. We need your consent in order to register your name and email address, as you aren’t able to do this independently. (Please note there are no links between your personal Facebook account and Workplace. It is a separate website and app, requiring a separate log-in.)
